What Does The "Google Fresh" Update Mean To Your Website?
This recent algorithm change is based on the Caffeine architecture introduced a year ago. It makes Google's listings much fresher.
The idea is to make sure their search results are more up-to-date and relevant. This will influence which sites/pages get the top positions in Google.
How Should You React To Google Fresh?
As a business owner you will want to make sure you are updating your website's content frequently. Adding new fresh content to your site has definitely become more important.
For small business owners, this will be a challenge. It isn't like we have unlimited budgets and staff dedicated to adding content to our website. So we must do what we can with what we have available to us.
Here are some ideas to help you out.
- Create blogs & forums Running a blog on your website is an excellent way of adding additional content. They are extremely search engine friendly and even contain timestamps that can easily be dated and assessed by the search engines.
- Create an active online community Another good idea is to create an active community using Facebook, LinkedIn or other online social media sites as a place to announce new content. This will also help the search engines notice the new content.
- Do Press Releases These releases are immediately picked up by search engines and are indexed. There are plenty of online press release sites online, some more spendy than others.
- News page Adding a news page to your website where you can post current news about your industry will certainly help with Google Fresh.
- Regular updates Keep adding things to your site like testimonials, gallery posts, updates to staff pages and the like. Keep everything current.
Here we are talking about Google Fresh . . . but really, what is good for Google is pretty much good for all search engines. By giving the search engines what they want you will in turn get more of what you want . . . visitors!

Tip of the Month
Use PayPal to process occasional credit card transactions for your business.
I very seldom have a client request paying for my services with a credit card. This makes maintaining a merchant account too costly to justify. So, instead I use PayPal as a sort of pay-as-you-go option. No recurring fees, simply a small charge based upon the transaction amount.
I have set up a simple online payment processing center for my business on my website that ties into PayPal. The customer enters their name, amount to pay and that is it.
They can login to their PayPal account to process the payment or pay without an account as a guest.
I have set up this option as an invisible URL for clients that don't want to offer the option publicly. They simply provide the URL to select customers as needed, no one else knows the payment center is there.
It is a affordable way to offer occasional credit card payments.

Success Story!
I recently sold a collectable clown head helium tank cover that I had posted on the ShophutchinsonMN.com FREE classified ads page.
The impressive thing about it is that the buyer is from Plainview New York . . . a Hamlet on Long Island. It serves as an excellent example of how powerful the web can be.
I had posted the item on Craig's List as well as tried to sell it on E-bay . . . no luck there. The buyer found it on ShopHutchinsonMN.com.
He isn't from Hutch, nor does he have any ties to
Hutchinson . . . the listing was simply indexed by the search engines and shown to him when he searched for a clown head helium tank cover.
